Driving AI Policy for National Impact

In August 2024, IDEA participated in Malawi’s first-ever National AI Policy and Strategy Conference, held under the auspices of UNDP. The event brought together government leaders, development partners, and key stakeholders to discuss how AI can be leveraged to drive national development objectives. At the conference, IDEA presented on key aspects of the policy, highlighting practical ways to achieve its goals and support inclusive, sustainable growth across Malawi.

Why It Matters

A clear national AI policy and strategy is critical for guiding the responsible use of AI, ensuring ethical practices, and aligning technological innovation with development priorities. For Malawi, this strategy helps create an enabling environment for AI adoption, supports data-driven decision-making in public and private sectors, and ensures AI solutions benefit all communities, especially the most vulnerable. By participating in shaping this strategy, IDEA contributes to national efforts to harness AI for economic growth, social development, and good governance.
